Here are some LinkedIn tips for you that are starting to use LinkedIn but doesn’t know how:
Tip #1 – Groups. To be able to get leads from LinkedIn, you need to build a reputation of an expert. One of the greatest ways to do that is participating in groups. Groups on LinkedIn work like forums, where any member can post a discussion or a reply. The more good replies you post, the more people will see you as an expert – everyone love to connect with experts. Groups don’t necessarily have to do with your area of expertise, but you want to choose groups that have potential customers. Groups are great to show-off your knowledge and build trust on your expertise.
Tip#2 – Pulse. Pulse is LinkedIn app for news. It matches your interests and skills to the most popular articles posted by LinkedIn members. In other words, it recognizes the industries and subjects you are interested on, and show you the most recent news about it. You can download the Pulse app on your phone, or access it by going to Interests > Pulse on your LinkedIn. In addition, Pulse will learn your behavior and adapt to show you better news. This is a great tool to increase your knowledge, and a great source of articles for you to share on your LinkedIn page.
Tip #3 – Share updates. LinkedIn is not a place to talk about personal matters, so when you share updates, make sure they are professional and have some type of useful information for the people you are connected with (see blunders that make you look like an amateur). The best updates are the ones that contain articles, quotes, or a piece of news. If you share an article, make sure to add a sentence or two with your opinion like “this is a great piece about how small business owners can get the most out of their POS system”. Having your opinion in the update not only shows that you actually took the time to read it, but that you also understand the industry. This is a great way to show people that you are an expert, and open the lines of communication for them to discuss that type of information with you.
Tip #4 – Connections. Leveraging your connections is a great way to spread the word about your talents, especially if you are looking for a job or is trying to start a new business. Take some time every day to keep in touch with your LinkedIn network, so you will always have an open door if you need a favor or are trying to get leads. LinkedIn has created an app named Connected to help you do just that. The Connected app will show you daily who is having a work anniversary, birthday or got a new job – all great opportunities for you to send a message and say hello.
